Initial planning

As a group we made a simple mindmap to help develop our ideas and decide on a potential theme and topic for our documentary. We initally set out to reach a younger audience of 15 - 30 Mainly because each member of the group was based in this age category therefore we felt we could suceed and understand what this target audience found appealing in terms of documentaries. We could rely on our personal tastes and combine our ideas and gain feedback from questionnaires to discover what this type of audience would require to entertain and interest them.Even though these aspects of history can provide us with various archives from books and the internet. We realised that these documentaries have been popular and done many a time therefore we diddnt want our audience to be conciously pessimistic incase they were to compare ours to a high budget, famous one.Another worry of ours was that we only had 5 minutes to fill and as these are such vast topics it would be hard to cram all the important aspects into this short space of time. This was also the case with religion and morality and we felt that it would be more attractive to an older audience.Another idea we decided not to take further was the stereotypes of hair colour as we believed that it was a limited topic and it would be difficult to maintain the audiences interest and it could insult people. As well as the football scandal of infidellity and high wages we believed at the time this would be easy to research when exploring archives as this seems to be a daily occurance in tabloid's and therefore the public may wish have their own opinions and be interested but we realised that it would be hard to interview a footballer as they are usually private people. We finally concluded that the three best ideas were ghost's : paranormal activity , Homosexuality , Phobia's - We believed ghosts would be great fun to film and research and it was a debatable subject as to do they exist ? So we could use this as the root to our documentary especially as it is nearing halloween which is a suitable time to schedule and film however homosexuality stood out due to modern culture and society embracing this concept and celebrations such as the gay pride festival that takes place in manchester (beneficial for gathering material) but one of the negatives that were highlighted was that it would be hard to find an expert of some kind related to this topic and this is one feature of our documentary which we wanted to include. So we came to the conclusion that phobia's should be our final idea as we could speak to psychologists and many people could relate to this topic and it had the advantage of appealing to a diverse audience of young and old.
